So, what do you need?

sewing machine in perfect working order. Don’t forget your power cable, foot control and instruction book,
cutting equipment (fabric and thread scissors, mat, rotary cutter, etc)
fabrics – see below,
thread – always use good quality thread. You will need a shade to tone with your design for piecing (I tend to use different shades of grey according to the tone of my fabric).
Quilting thread – matching, toning, contrasting
Quarter inch foot
Walking foot for your machine and/or Open Toe Free Motion foot (needed for quilting)
Usual sewing kit – pins, hand stitch needles, safety pins, 505 spray etc …….
If you have a small iron and pressing mat, and water spray these could be useful!

"Modern Sampler" - create a quilt top using a variety of modern and improv interpretations of traditional blocks. Depending on your experience and speed of working you may get as far as layering up your quilt and starting to quilt it.

Fabrics -
I have selected some hand dyed fabrics for this project. If you want to achieve a similar look, you could use solids or fabrics with a small all-over pattern. Try to stick to medium weight cotton fabrics (NOT poly cottons). If you are buying special fabrics and are unlikely to see them again you might want to buy extra “just in case” - they’ll always come in useful! This quilt is approximately 22½” square. You could, of course, create a larger quilt if you so choose, and of course, square isn't a requirement. Yardage is a guide only as you will be designing your own blocks! I used 5 fat quarters in the pictured sampler Although I have used a traditional double-fold binding, you could also choose a facing, and instructions will be included for both.

You may wish to add a border, in which case select approximate 0.5m of suitable fabric.

You will also need approximately 0.5 m fabric for a binding or a facing, approximately 0.5m for backing and a piece of wadding about 25" square
